TUBEROSE
Scientific name: Polianthes tuberosa
Among the ornamental bulbous
plants which are much valued by aesthetic world for beauty and fragrance of
their flowers, the tuberose occupies a very selective and special position to
flower loving people because of their prettiness, elegance and sweet pleasant
fragnance. In Bengali, it is called Rojoni-Gondha, meaning Scent of the Night.
The tuberose is a
perennial plant. It consists of about 12 species. Tuberose belongs to the
family Amaryllidaceae. The plant is dwarf, hardy exceeding 15-20 cm in height. The
flower spikes are largely consumed for vase decoration and bouquet preparation
and the florets for making garland and floral ornaments. Tuberose has
delightful fragnant. This can be extracted into ‘essence’ which is very
costly.
DAHLIA

Dahlia is unquestionably an
important flowering plant for the garden. The variety of forms, sizes, colours
and the ease of cultivation have made it immensely popular among garden
flowers. It is originated in Maxico. Modern garden dahlias are extensively used
for exhibition, garden display and decoration. It can be grown in any part of
the garden-in beds, in borders or even mixed borders along with other plants.
It grows well in pots, placed in the garden or on the terraced roof.

Dutch Amaryllis, is also called trumpet lily or night star lily. It is am

are also popular as cut flowers because of their large size, attractive colour and good keeping quality.

ALLAMANDA
Scientific name: Allamanda cathartica
Allamanda, also known as Yellow Bell, Golden
Trumpet or Buttercup Flower, is a genus of tropical shrubs or vines
belonging to the dogbane family (Apocynaceae). A woody,
evergreen shrub with vigorous growth, Allamanda may reach a free-standing
height of 2 metres or more. The leathery leaves are lancelike, pointed, and may
either be opposite or in whorls of three or four. The yellow, trumpet-shaped
flowers are 5-7.5 centimetres in diameter; cultivated forms tend towards larger
blooms which may also be white, purple, pink or orange in colour. Their scent may
be described as delicate and fruity. The leaves, roots and flowers may be used
in the preparation of a powerful cathartic' the milky sap is also known to possess antibacterial and possibly anticencer properties.
Gardeners exposed to the sap will develop rashes, itch, and blisters.
